My Jobs

I’m currently working on my zoology degree, and I hope to one day work with wildlife or exotic animals. But there’s lots of work to be done first! Step one: gain experience by volunteering and working in internships. Some of my blog posts are about my experiences!

What You’ll Read: You’ll see some posts about me working/applying for internships or posts about volunteering.

Quick Summary of My Projects

Volunteer at the National Black-Footed Ferret Conservation Center (Happening Right Now): I recently beganĀ volunteeringĀ at this Conservation Center, and I absolutely LOVE working and caring for black-footed ferrets (one of the most endangered animals in the United States)!

Pet Care Associate at a Pet Store (Happening Right Now): Currently I’m working at a pet store in the pet care department, meaning I care for all the small mammals, reptiles and amphibians, fish, cats, and birds during their time at the pet store. I even get to medicate (based on veterinarian recommendations) any animals that get sick. (Have you ever tried getting a turtle or snake to open its mouth to take medicine? It’s tough!)

Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (Summer 2012): I interned at Greenwood and cared for a variety of wild mammals (raccoons, red foxes, coyotes, squirrels) and birds (songbirds, corvids, waterfowl, etc). I absolutely loved it! I bottle-fed baby raccoons, medicated sick animals, fed baby birds, and more! A few videos of the animals I worked with can be seen on the following posts: Baby Cliff Swallow, Raccoons Playing in a Pool, Flicker Trying to Find Food

Tried to Volunteer at Wild Animal Sanctuary and Larimer County Humane Society: I really, really wanted to volunteer at both of these places. However, being a busy college student with two jobs kept me from being able to make the commitment required by both places. The Wild Animal Sanctuary is a place that cares for abused or abandoned tigers, lions, bears, wolves, etc that have been raised in captivity. For the Larimer County Humane Society I wanted to volunteer in the WildKind branch, which is their area for wildlife rehabilitation.
